I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a general practice, as well as a specialty in perinatal mental health and issues related to the transition to parenthood. My passion also lies in working with teens and women on relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem and life transitions.
In the past twenty years, I have worked with adults, teens and families in a variety of settings gaining experience in adolescent and adult substance abuse, home-based multi-systemic therapy, and outpatient mental health treatment. My therapeutic approach is strength-based, incorporating a variety of modalities to best suit the personality and needs of my clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based CBT, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). I also offer a faith-based approach when clients desire for it to be integrated into therapy.
Upon graduating with my Master's in Social Work in 2001, I opened my private practice. It was at this time that I also gave birth to my first son and became passionate about helping pregnant women and new moms whose transition to parenthood has been a difficult journey due to depression, anxiety, infertility and changes in identity. As a mother and psychotherapist, I was surprised by the range of emotions I felt after the birth of my two boys and the lack of professional services available to new mothers. This experience has driven my purpose to support women through this period by offering guidance, education, counsel and reassurance, allowing each mother to grow into her role as a parent.
